Downey Tree Service is a small, family-owned tree care business founded in 2015, operating off a third generation family farm in Minesing, Ontario. Owner and ISA Certified Arborist, Ryan Downey, prides himself on providing expert advice and professional service, while maintaining the highest industry standards for safety, quality and professionalism.

If we’re not up a tree during working hours, you can likely find us wrenching on our beloved chainsaws, splitting firewood, searching for the biggest trees in the area, or recreational climbing in our free time! Ryan Downey, ISA Certified Arborist

“Growing up on a farm in Minesing, Ontario (10 minutes north of Barrie), I've naturally acquired a passion for many things outdoors. I've always known I'd want to continue with our 3rd generation family farm, and I needed a career to accompany that.

After completing my post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering at Georgian College, arboriculture literally came knocking on my door. While between graduating and finding a full-time job, my family hired a local tree service to come to the farm to remove two large spruce trees that were in decline near the front of the house. I was mesmerized as two arborists spurred up the large trees dismantling them, piece by piece. Though I enjoyed my potential career path in electrical engineering, I needed to work, and figured the experience would be relevant and enjoyable.

Working with one of the largest tree care companies in the area exposed me to nearly every aspect of the industry. I had amazing arborists to apprentice under, and quickly fell in love with tree work. I loved every aspect, from the pruning and removals, to the plant healthcare and equipment maintenance.

I always had a goal to run my own business, and a few factors led to the birth of Downey Tree Service which is now entering its 6th season!”
